We are nothing if we don’t enjoy the flavours of diversity here at MA and from yesterday’s dreamy 60s beach house we head north and inland to the Murray banks and this oatmeal smooth, 80s rural homestead, perhaps pushing the Mid-Century tag yet still Modern infused and let’s face it, anything with a hearth as gorgeous as this one makes our cut, no questions asked. So here it is; a pristine, family home designed by notable architect Peter Blomquist of 1970s/80s firm Blomquist + Wark which subsequently evolved into successful commercial company DS Architects. Skillfully maintaining a tonal lightness, holding cool in the hottest Mallee summers and yet paradoxically exuding a physiological warmth which pings the heart of many a millennial who may recall a childhood spent in similar ecru aesthetics – cream flecked carpet, blonde wood, pale bagged walls, and square mosaic tiles. Elegant yet breezy this goes far beyond the usual brown brick venereal which afflicts so many rural holdings across the nation and transports us to somewhere altogether more enticing.
