A Chancellor & Patrick original, complete with a standout Edna Walling native garden and a magic collection of Mod Australian furnishings throughout. The diehards are all over this one and why not? This is a 24 carat, rolled gold delight. As such, we have decided to share the thoughts of Steven Coverdale, creator of the supremely comprehensive Chancellor & Patrick Architects Facebook page, to offer best summary of this very special home……

Freiberg House (1958) Yarravale Road, Kew

Designed by David Chancellor with Landscape Design by Edna Walling.

Perched on a dramatic site, overlooking the Yarra and it’s boulevard, this extraordinary house in extraordinary original condition, is currently for sale for the first time.

Having much in common with many of the ‘raised’ houses designed and constructed down the peninsula. (Particularly the demolished Crosby House previously posted on this group) The beautiful house features expressed post and beam construction, large cantilevered terrace, anchoring brickwork, timber paneling, ‘birds nest’ study attic, cruciform planning and a wonderful connection with landscaping and site.

Much published, and notably featured on the cover of Neil Clerehan’s Best Australian houses (1961) and nominated for awards, the house has been much loved by the owners and lovers of all things modern.

Don’t miss you’re chance to see this beautiful house. I won’t be.

Interesting and of note, it the interesting original sketch design for the house, a much more adventurous and ‘Wrightian’ exploration in ‘circular’ planning and design. Can you imagine?
